9. A place of safety – risky and protected places

  • Risky Places

The idea for this focus came from a number of books I have about risky places which nonetheless have a draw to them e.g. the exclusion zone around Chernobyl or Fukushima, or the red zone on Montserrat.

There are also hazard 'hotspots', which are prone to particular combinations of natural hazards.

  • Protected Places

CCTV is used in many city centre as a way of keeping people 'safe'.

Surveillance is part of our life - the TV programme 'Hunted' uses some of the tools that can be used by the security services.

How does this 'change' a place?
